It's taken seven years for Life in One Chord to get to this point. We couldn't have got this far without the help of an experienced production team giving their time for free to the project.
And now we're so close, but we have one last hurdle: licensing costs. This is to cover rights, rare archival footage and bootleg recordings.
We're not allowed to use our funding on this, so we're here, asking our amazing community for help!

"Everyone knew they were a fantastic band"
- Roger Shepherd Speaking about Straitjacket Fits
Dunedin may seem like an unlikely location for a musical revolution, yet it became the locus of an indie music movement that was heard around the world.
Riding the wave of the Dunedin Sound was Shayne Carter a loudmouthed teenage punk whose scrappy devil-may-care attitude is perfectly mirrored by Margaret Gordon’s cheeky and incredibly entertaining rockumentary.

"I can feel the land f---ing vibrating out here. It's just this big throbbing ambient space"
- Shayne Carter about the Otago Harbour
Director Statement
Life in One Chord is about the tenacity and personal strength it takes to be a working artist, especially in a small country like New Zealand.
I have always admired Shayne's work and I was very excited when he agreed to make this documentary with me.
Flying Nun is an internationally recognised musical movement, and Shayne was right at the heart of it, so his perspective on it all is unique.
He is a smart and funny guy, and a blistering guitar player. This film shows him in all his glory
